The spanish Snow White

We don’t know why but the old and famous story of Snow White is extremely popular this year. Hollywood studios have already released two very different takes on the story this year alone (and we didn’t like them so much, truth should be said).

Now, directly from Spain comes likely the most surreal and risky interpretation of the story in the film: ‘Blancanieves’. We love the synopsis from the film’s website:

BLANCANIEVES is a gothic melodrama inspired by the Brothers´ Grimm tale. Once upon a time there was a little girl who had never met her mother, and she grew up being hated by her evil stepmother. She learned her father’s art, a famous bullfighter, and one day she ran away to become a legend. Set in 1920s south of Spain, BLANCANIEVES is a tribute to silent films.

We have to admit that we LOVED the movie. We felt touched and fascinated with this free version of the story. For us, the main factors of this success are the following:

Spain is different (Flamenco way of protest)

From childhood I’ve grown with the statement: ‘Spain is different’.

Throughout my life I’ve interpreted it in several ways. Most of the times in the wrong way, but raising a half-smile of proud resignation. The same way that a mother looks at his most friendly but helpless son.

An unemployment rate of almost 25%. Until 100.000 million financial rescue. But full terraces on the streets and with different and very ironic ways of accepting the current situation. Check out this funny example:

Hollywood also loves Spain

Sundays are for us Movie-Days. We love going to the cinema and forgetting about the upcoming monday between frames and popcorn, or just stay at home and choose the perfect movie.
